Saratoga Down at Sheveland Ranch | Napa, California

Sheveland Ranch is a condominium and apartment development in Napa California. The development was built on the land of a former horse racing track that operated on the site. Following the closure of the race track the land was converted into a horse breeding farm. The property was redeveloped in 2004 as a multi-family residential facility. W a|d was hired by a real estate investment trust to provide architecture, landscape design, and branding and signage services to complete a $1M renovation to the property. W a|d developed a concept for the design assignment based on a graphic that recalled the horse racing and horse breeding history of the site. The old Jockey’s Quarters building was renovated into a leasing office, fitness center, and residence club. The area directly adjacent to the Jockey’s Quarters was developed for outdoor entertainment and leisure activities, landscaping was enhanced, and a wayfinding and signage system was developed to complement the other design changes. The wayfinding and signage system included 2 new monument signs, directional signage, and identity signage. W a|d selected all materials, typography, and content for the signs, created construction drawings, assisted the owner in procuring the signage, and oversaw the installation.
